Anemia may cause tiredness, weakness, and reduced energy. 2. Trouble Sleeping People with kidney disease may experience sleep problems. Changes in body chemistry, itching, muscle discomfort, or conditions such as sleep apnea can contribute to disturbed sleep. 3. Dry or Itchy Skin Advanced kidney disease can cause dry, itchy skin. Changes in mineral and phosphorus balance may contribute to persistent itching. 4. Frequent Nighttime Urination Waking up frequently to urinate, known as nocturia, can occur with kidney disease. Nausea and Vomiting Nausea and vomiting can occur when kidney function becomes severely impaired and waste products accumulate in the bloodstream. 20. Bad Breath Advanced kidney disease can cause a distinctive ammonia-like or urine-like odor to the breath because of elevated urea levels. 21. Decreased Urine Output A significant decrease in urine production can occur with acute kidney injury or severe kidney dysfunction.
