Materials
- Thrifted metal Bundt pans (various sizes)
- Wooden broom handles or dowels (about 4–5 feet in length)
- Outdoor adhesive or strong epoxy glue
- Spray paint (optional, for coloring the Bundt pans)
- Clear outdoor sealant spray
- Hand saw (if broom handles need to be cut)
- Sandpaper (for smoothing edges of the broom handles)
Directions
- Start by cleaning the thrifted Bundt pans thoroughly to remove any dirt or grease.
- If desired, spray paint the pans in bright, mushroom-like colors such as red, yellow, or blue. Allow the paint to dry completely.
- Use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges on the broom handles, especially if they have been cut to size.
- Apply outdoor adhesive or strong epoxy glue to the center of the bottom side of the Bundt pan.
- Carefully attach the Bundt pan to the top of the broom handle, pressing firmly to ensure a strong bond. Allow the glue to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Once the glue has set, spray a clear outdoor sealant over the entire piece to protect it from the elements.
- Place your finished garden mushrooms in your backyard by pushing the broom handle into the soil to secure them upright.
Variations & Tips
For a more natural look, leave the Bundt pans unpainted and let their metallic finish reflect sunlight. Alternatively, use glow-in-the-dark spray paint for an enchanting nighttime effect. You can also experiment with different heights by cutting the broom handles to varying lengths, creating a dynamic, layered display. For added detail, consider attaching small decorative elements like beads or stones to the tops of the mushrooms.
