When the recirculation system is deactivated, the car draws in fresh air from outside, filters it, and brings it to the desired temperature before releasing it into the cabin. When activated, the system closes an outside air intake and reuses the air already inside the vehicle, creating a closed loop for more controlled airflow and potentially improving the efficiency of the cabin climate-control system.
But the real advantage becomes clear when you know when to activate this setting — especially in challenging weather and traffic conditions.
This feature is especially useful in hot weather because it helps the air-conditioning system cool the cabin more quickly by recycling air that has already been cooled. It can also reduce the amount of exhaust fumes entering the cabin while driving in traffic, limit outside odors, and make driving more comfortable for people who are sensitive to pollen or dust.
